What types of events does Hula Hut perform for?
Hula Hut performs for a variety of private and public functions. Please take a look at the "Past Events" page to get an idea. Hula Hut performs for events of all types and sizes.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Cash, personal check (for deposit only), business check or money order are acceptable methods of payment. Customer is responsible to pay Hula Hut any and all fees due to problems with depositing check. For specific payment information for events, please see "When do I pay?".

How is an event/lesson price determined?

Not all functions are the same price, many aspects are taken into consideration inculding, package selected, performance date, distance being traveled, current fuel prices, any parking fees (garage/meter parking), day of performance set up, costume making, choreography time and practice time for the event are included in total package cost.  It takes at least 4-6 hours of practice/preparation time for each event.

I am hosting an event, when do I pay Hula Hut?

A 50% deposit is required 2 weeks prior to event date. The remaining balance is due in CASH (exact amount) to the dancer at the event. If you were pleased by the performance a tip is always appreciated.

If Hula Hut does not receive deposit prior to event date or check bounces then Hula Hut may determine to cancel service. Hula Hut is not responsible for any loss of money or client business due to this. Hula Hut is not responsible for issues with mail being lost or delayed by postal service.

I want to hire a dance group for my event, does Hula Hut have a dance group?

At this time one dancer, the owner, is a solo performer.  For more info on the owner's background and experience please click on "About Dancer" on the menu. Hula Hut hopes to expand in the future to offer a dance group to dance at events.

Is Hula Hut dancer of Polynesian ethnicity?

Hula is danced all over the world (around 500,000 just in Tokyo) therefore, today many dancers are not of native nationality. There is a popular saying of being "Hawaiian at heart" and feel this is one of the most important parts of being a hula dancer as well as embracing and respecting the native culture.

I am interested in a Hawaiian Style band and Ukulele player. Does Hula Hut offer this?

Hula Hut does not work with any "hawaiian style" bands. We are open to offering this for events in the future so if you belong to or know of a local "hawaiian style" band please let us know. Mahalo!

I would like to hire fire knife dancers do you offer this service?

No we do not, but again if you know of a local professional that does we would love to hear from them.

Does the dancer always change costumes?

This depends on the package you chose. Yes, necessary costume changes may be taken and usually take an average of 10-15 mintues for each costume change. Costumes and dance implements are authentic and all directly from the Polynesian Islands. Also, some costumes are often hand made by performer. Costume changes can be worked around event schedule.

Do I have to provide a stereo for dancer's music?

Events are most successful if you have or are renting a sound system for your event. However, dancer will bring a CD player/speaker for music. Hula Hut does not dance with a band or DJ. If there is a DJ at the event then it is best if the DJ plays Hula Hut's music. Please inform your DJ of this happening prior to event. If you wish, a short script can be provided to the DJ to introduce dancer. Thank you!

What do I need to do in preparation for my event?

Dancer will arrive prior to performance time to set up performance area (included in total price).

CLIENT to Provide:

*Private Dressing Area/Room for costume changes (for ROYAL Package only)

*15 feet x 15 feet area for performance w/  "safe" flooring or ground  (dances are done bare foot).

*If performance will be done indoors, ceiling height must be at least 12-15 feet for poi ball dance to be performed.

*Please be sure to place all "delicate" indoor and outdoor decorations away from performance area.  This includes children. :)

*Please be sure that there is no glass, rocks, or anything else slippery or sharp on dancing surface.

How does Hula Hut give back to the community?

In the summer of 2006, Hula Hut's owner decided to give back to the Hawaiian culture for the makana o hula (gift of hula) by donating a percent of profits to a variety of Polynesian Organizations to support hula an the culture.

Tips are always welcome and appreciated!
Mahalo!
